Is Linux Sexy Enough?
To this day, Linux continues to struggle with mainstream acceptance, and there are several opinions out there as to why that is. An interesting view among tech bloggers is that this operational system is not “sexy” enough. In other words, Linux doesn't have the visual appeal that Mac, for instance, has to offer.
Many seem to disagree with that view, and insist that it is precisely the lack of shining bells and whistles that makes Linux so appealing to so many people.
We must be frank, Linux has very little sexiness for the eye of the beholder when you compare it to an Apple iPad, for instance. But how important is this? Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of the Linux Foundation, says that , 'Linux can compete with the iPad on price, but where's the magic?' When Mr. Zemlin says that this operational system needs to be more attractive, we need to listen.
This OS system has the designers, the planners, the supporters, the programmers and the time. But in order to have a serious presence among computer users, this operational system will need some serious eye candy. The question of Linux's sexiness is not an easy one to answer, and even less to accomplish if it had to. It is not just a matter getting some generic Viagra into the operational system and voilà! After all, a penguin wearing speedos is still a penguin.
Serious Linux fans say that they like their operating system to look like what it is, and that they would feel terribly disappointed if this OS system ever tried to imitate the aesthetics of Mac, or other “designer” systems, as they call them.
Therefore, what should we order from the techie online pharmacy to make Linux sexier without drawing the ire of the OS system fans?
Justin Mcdowel, a die-hard Linux user says that the changes should limit themselves to adopting Mac fonts only. That might be just the thing to add bling-bling to the penguin without going to far.
